UIC is seeking a Statistician to join our Office of Enrollment Analytics team. This role aids in the access, utilization, and understanding of data in the areas of student enrollment management. Research and analysis conducted by this position will inform student access and equity efforts, strategic enrollment decisions, and policy/program review in areas including (but not limited to) higher education student recruitment, admissions, registration, financial aid, and academic outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop dashboards, data visualizations, and other tools to monitor daily transactional counts from recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and registration, and to enable dynamic and transparent access to EM data and analyses.
- Conduct evidence-based best practice research and perform measurement studies to assess policies and EM services, identifying ways to improve research design and data validity.
- Design effective research strategies and gather relevant information using primary and secondary sources and techniques (e.g., online databases, government agencies, external research organizations, etc.).
- Administer student surveys; develop survey instruments, obtain approval from campus office on research (IRB), collect data, analyze and prepare reports for constituents.
- Summarize and present data findings in the form of charts, slides, and written reports for a non-technical audience.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours in statistics and a minimum of 6 semester hours in algebra, geometry, calculus, or statistics at the college level
- Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience that required the use of statistical, graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages, such as SAS, SPSS, Excel, Access and Tableau
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in institutional research methodology, needs assessment, strategic planning, data collection and quantitative analysis is essential to manipulating and analyzing large data sets in support of institutional research, assessment, and planning.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituents and articulate complex, multifaceted issues contributing to institutional effectiveness.
- Proficiency in using statistical software (SPSS, SAS, R and/or STATA).
- Experience with data visualization software (i.e., Tableau).
