The Energetics and Propulsion Department, which is part of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate, is looking for a Principal Flight Safety System Engineer. This organization is responsible for the design and development of propulsion technology to support the Land Warfare and Air Defense mission area.

Job Summary:
The Principal Flight Safety System Engineer position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team: Requires expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have deep knowledge of project management. Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs, or systems.
This position is located in Tucson, Arizona.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Familiar with developing, reviewing, updating, and approving system verification artifacts and system requirements
Familiar with electrical circuit design
Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate issues
Self-starter and ability to work independently
Effective verbal and written communication skills
This position is a hybrid role, and the selected applicant will work with the hiring manager to set schedule.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years’ experience with technical engineering background, leading teams in the aerospace or government sector or Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
Qualifications We Value:

10 plus years of directly related experience in mechanical and electrical design
Specific experience developing electrical sub systems used in flight termination (electronic arm fire devices, flight termination receivers, flight termination controllers, tracking systems, etc.)
Experience developing and qualifying flight systems for harsh environments.
Working knowledge of RCC319.
Experience developing destruct termination devices.
Experience in business development and technology road mapping
Demonstrated success as a team leader

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
